Artist’s Statement

The natural world, rather than the urban, has always been my major source of inspiration, so landscape painting, from the distant view to the closest plant study, is what satisfies and stretches me, expressing my deepest interests.  Trees, rocks and other natural forms lend themselves, for me, as much to visual metaphor as any formal icon.

Having been a printmaker and oil painter for all my adult life, and worked and experimented with other ‘isms’ and media, I have finally chosen acrylics as the most flexible and least toxic medium.  For the moment, Realism feels the most natural form of expression and visual communication.  I don’t try for photographic perfection, preferring a loose style, abstracting only enough from the scene to record my feelings as well as my seeings.
